Skills for Employment and Further Learning (QCF) Qualifications (SEFL)

With over 1000 units to choose from, our Skills for Employment and Further Learning (QCF) qualifications are our most popular and flexible qualifications.

These qualifications are available from Entry 3 to Level 3 and their flexibility has been designed to support the development of a personalised curriculum. They have been developed with the aim of progressing learners into further learning and/or employment, and are available to all age ranges (both pre and post 16 learners). The range of units can be used to give learners an opportunity to develop both personal development and vocational experience. The vocational units allow learners to sample ‘taster’ units in different sector specific areas.

Qualification Content

All credits within these qualifications are optional which allow learners to achieve credits from across the wide range of subject areas, for example Animal Care, Building and Construction, Hair and Beauty, Vehicle Maintenance and many more.

Learners may accumulate their credits to achieve Awards, Extended Awards, Certificates, Extended Certificates and Diplomas. Spikey profiles are also available, allowing learners to achieve credits at a higher or lower level to count towards the achievement of their SEFL qualification.

These rules of combinations are detailed in Section 2 of the full qualification specification. The SEFL qualification specification can be downloaded here.

Assessment Resource Packs

Along with clear assessment guidance on the individual units, our Quality Team has approved a number of Assessment Resource Packs for units within the SEFL Qualifications. These packs are available free of charge to all AIM Awards centres and may be contextualised to meet the needs of your particular learners. A full list of these packs can be found here.

Tips from your Curriculum Support Team

As always, our Curriculum Support Team is available to advise you on the best way of setting up your SEFL course(s). But we would like to offer some extra guidance below:

Offering SEFL Qualifications

Our qualification approval process is simple. Once you have designed your SEFL course(s) against the rules of combinations detailed in the qualification specification, you will need to complete a qualification approval request for each SEFL course/qualification size here.

Once you have selected the units you wish to create your SEFL course(s) with, please select 'Add to Basket' where we will ask you to complete some more information. You may either complete this request as a 'Guest', or log in using your centre details where your centre information will be pre-filled. You may also chose a course title at this point, which will help you and your centre differentiate between different SEFL courses, but will not appear on the learner's qualification certificates.

Once this request has been submitted, your AIM Awards Administration Contact will review this application. We check your course against the rules of combinations for the qualification size you have selected, and will contact you with any queries. You will receive an email confirmation from us when your qualification request has been approved.

You may make amendments to any valid courses, register your learners and track certification using the AIM Awards Portal. You can contact your AIM Awards Administration Contact for guidance on using this.
